How my relationship with voice and singing began
I have been singing since I was three years old.
There was always music in my home. My mother and my uncle used to sing with me, and there are some very funny recordings from when I was very little.
Over time, I realised that singing was more than just a game. Without knowing it, music was my way of regulating what I was feeling.
During my teenage years, artists like Alanis Morissette and Janis Joplin accompanied me. I was drawn to that way of singing where everything is placed in the voice, where emotion comes out without filters. I felt that same intensity. Music was a way of releasing what I carried inside.
I moved from listening to 90s boybands to immersing myself in rock and grunge: Nirvana, System of a Down, and many other bands from that era. I needed music to have that kind of power.
Vocal Training: From Functional Singing to Classical Technique
When I started studying veterinary medicine, music took on a different place in my life. That was also when I began studying at the conservatory. I didn’t complete it for personal reasons, but it was an important stage. I was singing at events, starting to place my voice in front of others, and discovering what it meant to share it.
During those years I also studied functional singing. However, at the conservatory they discovered something that explained many of the difficulties I had been experiencing: I had a small gap in my vocal cords, which caused air to escape when I sang. I felt that my voice was limited. I could sing, and people often said my voice was beautiful, but I had the sense that I couldn’t fully develop its potential.
At that time I was also smoking, which clearly didn’t help.
The encounter that transformed the way I worked with my voice
When I finished my degree and returned to my hometown to begin working, I met a singing teacher who completely changed my path. She was an opera singer, and the first time she heard my voice she said something very simple:
“This can be worked on.”
She explained that the vocal cords are flexible and that the voice can transform with the right training.
From that moment, a much deeper process began. It was no longer only about vocal technique. Emotions appeared as well. Breathing. The relationship between the body and the voice. Everything I had intuitively felt for years began to make sense.
My voice began to change.
And so did I.
Exploring Voice, Body, and Emotional Regulation
I began exploring different paths: deeper vocal technique, training in classical singing, bodywork, courses in therapeutic voice, and more ancestral forms of chanting. It was a long process of learning and self-discovery in which I learned to listen to my voice and care for it.
Over time I understood something fundamental: the voice is not only an artistic instrument. It is also a tool for inner regulation.
During these years I continued singing in different settings, collaborating in events, and sharing my voice in very different contexts.
What Cats Taught Me About Voice and Energy
The real turning point came through something unexpected: cats.
My work as a veterinarian led me to observe something that at first seemed very simple. When my internal state changed, the way cats responded changed as well. Over time I realised that my voice played an important role in that process.
My voice regulated my energy. And that regulation directly influenced the animals.
That was the moment when everything came together.
The voice stopped being only a tool for singing or expressing myself. It became a way of deep communication. A way to regulate ourselves, to create safety, and to relate better with animals and also with people.
Today: Teaching How to Use the Voice to Communicate and Regulate
From that point on, my way of working with the voice was born.
Today I teach people how to use it more consciously: to communicate better, to set boundaries, to create presence, and to regulate our nervous system.
Because the voice is not only what we say.
It is also the energy with which we say it.
If you are here, you have something to sing.
